A PARADE
OF
QUIET
When I first encountered Rori Hee’s art, I was captivated by its electric colors and whimsical forms, each line alive with energy. Yet, beneath this surface vibrancy, her work seemed to hold an unspoken stillness, a quiet voice inviting me closer. The colors weren’t just expressive—they paused, speaking to emotions that words often struggle to convey.
Curating A Parade of Quiet has been a journey of exploring the delicate balance between outward vibrancy and inner stillness. Her paintings feel like harmonious contradictions: they invite us to celebrate their playful forms while also prompting reflection on subtle emotions. Each piece embodies a unique tension—an interplay of joy and melancholy, boldness and fragility.
Rori’s story is woven into every brushstroke. Her whimsical beginnings as a cartoon designer, her years of perseverance through illness, and her eventual return to artistic expression all shape her work. The young girl she paints, seemingly carefree, reveals a deeper emotional complexity—a fusion of hope, vulnerability, and resilience.
This exhibition is a parade of layered emotions. It celebrates color and imagination while also offering a profound sense of tranquility. Each painting feels like a participant in a procession, unified in step yet carrying its own quiet story.
As you walk through A Parade of Quiet, I invite you to slow down. Let the colors draw you in, but listen closely to the silence they hold. In this quiet parade, even the loudest voices carry a tender weight, and every whisper longs to be heard.
RORI HEE
Rori Hee was born in Seoul, South Korea in 1979 and studied Visual Art and Design at Jangan University from 1998 to 2001. After graduating from school, she worked as a cartoon designer and planner for Cyworld, the largest com- munity website in Korea. During this period, she accumulated a lot of artistic practice experience, which laid the foundation for her later individual artistic creation.
After working at a big company for nearly 10 years, she got tired of the meaningless repeating 9-to-5 work, and yearned to live in countryside and pursue higher attainments in art. Unfortunately, she was diagnosed with cancer in 2016. Since then, she’ s been fighting against the disease for six years .During this period, she never gave up her pursuit of art. Finally, in 2021, she was cured of cancer and officially resumed her artistic career.
Rori Hee identifies herself with the image of a young girl in her artwork. Through her continuous exploration of art, she expresses her own sense of existence. The vibrant colors and playful imagination in her artwork reflect her longing for a brilliant life. To add a personal touch to her paintings, she utilizes techniques such as gestural creation, color layering, and fluorescent blending. She particularly favors highly saturated fluorescent colors to enhance the visual impact of her works, which complements the pureness conveyed by the girls in her compositions.
